BELFAST POP-NOIR DUO DARK TROPICS RELEASE DEVASTATING BALLAD

Irish pop-noir duo Dark Tropics release their new single, "It All Leads Back to You" May 13th, alongside a run of Irish dates, with more to be announced, and an accompanying video for the track. The song is a sparse, deeply moving piano ballad drawn from the singer’s own real-life experience of a doomed wedding engagement.

Comprised of vocalist Rio and multi-instrumentalist Gerard, Dark Tropics have built their rapidly growing reputation on vintage cinematic elegance and raw authenticity. For this new release, the band completely stripped back their atmospheric soundscape to focus entirely on the weight of discovering your engagement would trap you in a life you don't want. The recording process for the track was notoriously visceral; Rio’s vulnerability is captured flawlessly on the single, born out of an intense recording session where she found herself crying while delivering the final vocal take.

"It All Leads Back to You" serves as a powerful, emotionally devastating addition to the band's catalog. Dark Tropics have consistently earned high-profile support from industry tastemakers, including heavy rotation from Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music and Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2. Their critically acclaimed live performances, which recently included supporting Belle and Sebastian on a sold-out Irish tour, continue to captivate audiences with their distinct pop-noir swagger. They have also received international airplay from Anne Litt on KCRW and Kevin Cole on KEXP, alongside features in major publications like Billboard and Clash.

“Lovely, cinematic, understated pop”

Steve Lamacq, BBC 6Music

“This sounds beautiful”

Jo Whiley, BBC Radio 2

“Bold, gorgeous, and above all, memorable.”

Billboard
